Why settle for store-bought ketchup full of preservatives and artificial flavors when you can make your own at home using fresh tomatoes? This easy recipe gives you thick, tangy, naturally sweet ketchup that’s 100% preservative-free and packed with real tomato flavor.

🧂 Ingredients:

  • 1 kg ripe red tomatoes
  • 100g sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4–5 cloves
  • 1 small cinnamon stick
  • 1 small piece of ginger (optional)
  • 1 garlic clove (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon red chili powder (for slight heat)

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

Step 1: Wash and Chop

  • Rinse tomatoes thoroughly and chop into medium pieces.

Step 2: Cook with Spices

  • Add chopped tomatoes, cloves, cinnamon, garlic, and ginger to a pan.
  • Simmer on low heat until tomatoes become soft and pulpy.

Step 3: Blend and Strain

  • Cool the mixture slightly. Remove cinnamon.
  • Blend until smooth. Strain the pulp using a fine sieve to remove seeds and skin.

Step 4: Reduce and Flavor

  • Transfer strained pulp back to the pan.
  • Add sugar, salt, red chili powder, and vinegar.
  • Simmer on low heat, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens like ketchup.

Step 5: Cool and Bottle

  • Let the ketchup cool completely.
  • Store in a sterilized glass bottle or airtight jar.
  • Refrigerate and use within 3–4 weeks.

✅ Tips for Better Shelf Life:

  • Use clean, dry spoons each time.
  • Keep the ketchup refrigerated.
  • Add a bit more vinegar for longer preservation naturally.
